What is Ready Nutrition?

Ready Nutrition is a nutrition company offering a wide range of sports nutrition supplements and beverages.

The company is best-known for its Ready Sports Drink, which competes with Gatorade, Powerade, and BodyArmor for the sports beverage market.

In May 2020, NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo made headlines for investing in the Ready Nutrition company. It’s the first major startup investment for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar.

Ready Nutrition was founded by Pat Cavanaugh in 2012. Cavanaugh is an undersized former basketball player who, like Giannis, defied the odds. Cavanaugh played for the University of Pittsburgh in the late 1980s as a walk-on player.

What is Ready Nutrition?

“What I love about Giannis, we both started from nothing and built ourselves up,” explained Cavanaugh in a recent interview discussing Giannis’s startup investment.

The terms of the deal were not announced. However, 25-year old Giannis has already made more than $150 million in his basketball career through salary and endorsements.

Last year, Ready Nutrition generated more than $100 million in sales while posting double digit growth. The company is based outside Pittsburgh. You can find Ready Nutrition products in more than 8,000 retail outlets across the United States. The company is now available in Walmart in 20 states.

Giannis isn’t the first athlete to join Ready Nutrition as an investor. Last year, two-time NFL defensive player of the year Aaron Donald became the first pro athlete to join Ready Nutrition as an investor.
