What is CitroBurn?
CitroBurn is a nutritional supplement that uses ingredients like red orange, grapefruit, orange, and guarana to help you lose weight.
By flooding your body with polyphenols, CitroBurn purportedly gives your body the antioxidants it needs to help with inflammation, making it easier to lose weight.
CitroBurn is made by a Camas, Washington-based company named Simple Promise. That company offers a range of supplements targeting different health benefits, including EpiShield Plus, Metabolic Flora and Red Yeast Rice Plus.
CitroBurn contains only one active ingredient: a patented formula called Sinetrol. That formula contains multiple fruit and plant extracts standardized to contain a specific level of polyphenols. The formula is supported by multiple studies, with researchers linking Sinetrol to weight loss, anti-inflammatory effects, and other benefits.
How Does CitroBurn Work?
CitroBurn works differently from a traditional diet pill. Typically, diet pills use fiber, caffeine, stimulants, or other ingredients to help with weight loss.
CitroBurn, however, uses different ingredients. The supplement contains an ingredient we haven’t seen in any other weight loss formula, for example, called Paullina cupana extract. This extract comes from a fruit in the Amazon rainforest used for centuries by indigenous tribes for health and wellness. Now, that same fruit extract is packaged into CitroBurn for weight loss.
Paullina cupana may sound exotic – but it’s simply another name for guarana, the popular energy-boosting compound found in a variety of supplements and energy drinks.
In addition to guarana, CitroBurn contains red orange, grapefruit, and orange extracts. All of these ingredients are packaged into a proprietary blend called Sinetrol, a polyphenol blend made by a French company.
You take two capsules of CitroBurn per day to support weight loss.
CitroBurn contains just one listed ingredient: 900mg of a formula called Sinetrol. There are four fruit extracts inside that formula, including red orange (Citrus sinensis), grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), orange (Citrus sinensis), and guarana (Paullinia cupana) extract. The formula is standardized to contain 90% polyphenols and 20% flavanones by weight.
All ingredients are packaged into a gelatin capsule with rice flour, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide used as fillers, binders, and preservatives. Because CitroBurn uses a gelatin capsule, it’s not a vegan or vegetarian supplement (gelatin is a pork product).
CitroBurn also contains natural caffeine, although it’s not clear how much caffeine is inside the formula. Simple Promise recommends not taking the supplement at night because of the natural caffeine content.
Scientific Evidence for CitroBurn
Simple Promise has not run any human or animal tests on CitroBurn, nor has it conducted any clinical trials to prove it works as advertised. However, CitroBurn contains 900mg of Sinetrol, which has gone through multiple studies.
Sinetrol is made by a French company named Fytexia. It’s a citrus extract standardized to contain a certain level of polyphenols. Fytexia claims their formula can help reduce excess fat mass (i.e. it helps you lose weight).
Here’s how Fytexia describes Sinetrol:
“Sinetrol® is a patented weight loss ingredient*, formulated from natural Mediterranean citrus. Orange and grapefruit extracts are selected to create a synergy of bioactive polyphenols targeting body-weight management benefits.”
To help with weight loss, Sinetrol uses Fat Shredding Technology (FST), which induces thermogenesis (fat burning) within your body. The formula targets an enzyme linked to fat breakdown. By targeting that enzyme, Sinetrol raises levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), and higher cAMP levels lead to an increased rate of fat breakdown:
“The active compounds of Sinetrol® help stimulate lipolysis through the inhibition of phosphodiesterase-4, the enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). Higher cAMP levels lead to an increased rate of triglyceride breakdown which naturally enhances the release of free fatty acids from the fat cells. This is how the total fat mass of the subjects decreases.”
In March 2020, researchers published a review of the safety and efficacy of Sinetrol in the Journal of Medicinal Food. In that study, researchers investigated Sinetrol’s effects on weight and body fat reduction in overweight or obese people in Korea. 100 people took either Sinetrol or a placebo for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, researchers observed a significant reduction in body fat mass and body weight in the Sinetrol group.
In that 2020 study, researchers used a 900mg daily dose of Sinetrol – the same dose in CitroBurn. It was a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial – the best kind of research.
Researchers believe the weight loss effects of Sinetrol were linked with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, helping to lower blood triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol levels. The polyphenols in Sinetrol may have reduced inflammation and cholesterol in the bloodstream, helping with weight loss.
Researchers observed no significant side effects in the Sinetrol group during the study, and there were no differences in calorie intake or exercise between the Sinetrol group and the placebo. In other words, Sinetrol seemed to genuinely lead to significant weight loss in one major study.
In this 2013 study, researchers tested Sinetrol on healthy overweight individuals. Researchers gave 100 participants Sinetrol or a placebo, then checked results after 12 weeks. Researchers observed significant decreases in waist and hip circumference, abdominal fat, inflammatory markers, and oxidative stress, among other benefits.
Researchers concluded that Sinetrol could help overweight individuals lose weight and support healthy inflammation, among other benefits:
“These results indicated that Sinetrol-XPur supplementation is a viable option for reducing abdominal fat, waist and hip circumference, and body weight and for improving inflammatory, glycemic, and oxidative status in healthy overweight individuals.”
Overall, Sinetrol has not gone through a large number of studies. However, the two biggest studies on Sinetrol to date have connected the formula with impressive benefits. In both studies, researchers observed significant weight loss results and other benefits in large groups of people compared to a placebo. Researchers also used a similar dose of Sinetrol (900mg per day) to the dose used in CitroBurn. Based on all available evidence, CitroBurn should work as advertised to help with weight loss and inflammation.
CitroBurn is priced at $31 to $49 per bottle, depending on how many bottles you order:
- 1 Bottle: $49
- 3 Bottles: $117
- 6 Bottles: $186
