What is NutriProtein?

NutriProtein is a protein powder made from plant-based sources like chickpeas and peas. The formula offers many of the same benefits as traditional whey protein powder, but without the use of dairy or animal products.

By taking NutriProtein daily, you can purportedly strengthen lean muscle, reduce cravings, and fight fat formation, among other benefits. The formula also claims to deliver significant amounts of protein, iron, and amino acids.

NutriProtein is made by United Naturals, which sells the supplement online through UnitedNaturals.com for $45 to $55 per jar.

How Does NutriProtein Work?

United Naturals claims NutriProtein can provide all of the following benefits:

  • A proprietary blend of essential nutrients, organic proteins, and high-fiber superfoods
  • Helps your body convert fat into natural energy
  • Replenishes lost vitamins and minerals
  • Keeps hunger cravings in check

Most people take protein powders like NutriProtein to support an active lifestyle. If you exercise regularly, for example, then a protein powder can help you recover, build muscle, and burn fat. Some people replace meals with a protein shake, while others take NutriProtein after a workout to begin rebuilding muscle.

No matter why you’re using NutriProtein, United Naturals recommends mixing the formula with water for a delicious, smooth-tasting shake that helps you keep appetite under control.

In addition to containing pea and chickpea protein, NutriProtein contains chia seeds and inulin for added fiber content. Each serving contains 7g of fiber, which is a high dose of fiber compared to other protein powders.

The supplement also contains acacia and guar gum to promote gut and digestive health, while moringa gives you vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. United Naturals rounds out the formula with chicory root for probiotic support and a naturally sweet taste.

NutriProtein Ingredients

NutriProtein contains plant-based sources of protein, including chickpea protein powder and pea protein concentrate exclusively.

United Naturals mixes those ingredients with cocoa, inulin, natural chocolate, natural vanilla, medium-chain triglycerides, allulose, salt, ProHydrolase, moringa powder, chia seed powder, acacia gum, guar gum, and xanthan gum.

Each serving (15 servings per container / 35.6g per serving) contains 155 calories, 2g of fat, 10g of carbs, 7g of fiber, and 15g of protein.

It’s unclear if the chickpea protein powder in NutriProtein is organic. The sales page mentions “organic protein sources,” although it seems only the Puris Pea Protein powder (a formula made by Cargill) is organic. Cargill’s Puris Pea Protein powder is USDA Organic certified, although it does not appear the chickpea protein has the same organic certification.

Scientific Evidence for NutriProtein

United Naturals does not claim to have run any clinical trials or scientific studies on its formula. The company also does not cite any third party studies verifying the advertised benefits.

However, researchers have launched plenty of studies on protein powders and their effectiveness, including plant-based protein powders.

In this 2019 study, for example, researchers found that dietary protein had a direct connection to muscle mass. Researchers cited 90+ studies on protein powders and found that higher-protein diets were linked with various benefits – including muscle mass and other benefits. The study was published in Nutrients.

Some studies have also focused specifically on plant-based protein sources. While some people claim plant-based protein is superior to animal-sourced protein, most studies have found plant-based protein slightly worse for muscle mass compared to animal-sourced protein.

This 2019 study published in Nutrients found that plant-based protein sources were better for the environment, for example, although they had “less of an anabolic effect than animal proteins due to their lower digestibility, lower essential amino acid content (especially leucine), and deficiency in other essential amino acids, such as sulfur amino acids or lysine.”

In that study, researchers analyzed 120+ studies on plant protein and found that plant-based protein sources can be valuable when they’re rich in fiber and micronutrients, although they tend to have less of a muscle-building effect than animal-based protein sources.

Nevertheless, plant-based protein powders remain popular among vegans, vegetarians, lactose intolerant people, and other groups. Even if muscle building effectiveness is slightly lower, plant-based protein powers like NutriProtein can still complement a weight training routine for increased muscle mass.

Final Word

NutriProtein is a plant-based protein powder that uses chickpea and pea protein to provide your body with the daily protein it needs for weight loss, muscle mass, and other protein powder benefits.

United Naturals formulated the supplement under the guidance of a medical doctor. At $54 for just 15 servings, NutriProtein is expensive compared to traditional protein powders and other plant-based protein powders. The formula also does not contain organic or USDA Organic certified plant sources – which is something we see with other protein powders around this price range.
