Nerve Shield Plus: Reviewing the 2020 Research

Nerve Shield Plus is a supplement for neuropathy and uses an advanced defense formula that Thomas Carswell claims to help add support against the toxic enzyme that causes nerve pain.

Full Disclosure

Nerve Shield Plus is a nutritional supplement that claims to reduce symptoms of diabetic nerve pain.

As part of a new marketing campaign, the manufacturer has bundled Nerve Shield Plus with an eBook called The Ultimate Blood Sugar Blueprint. That eBook lists various foods and supplements you can use to fight diabetes.

That marketing campaign discusses a “Malaysian secret” that was recently discovered. According to the makers of Nerve Shield Plus, that ingredient can essentially cure neuropathy.

Will Nerve Shield Plus actually reduce symptoms of diabetic nerve pain as advertised? Or is this another over-priced, over-hyped supplement backed by little scientific evidence?

Find out today in our Nerve Shield Plus review.

What is Nerve Shield Plus?

Nerve Shield Plus is a nutritional supplement that claims to relieve neuropathy, better known as diabetic nerve pain.

If you have ever experienced the painful, tingling sensation in your extremities known as diabetic nerve pain, then you know how uncomfortable it can be. Nerve Shield Plus is a supplement that claims to use clinically researched ingredients to reduce symptoms of diabetic nerve pain.

We first started hearing about Nerve Shield Plus back in November 2019. Since January or February 2020, however, the manufacturer has begun an aggressive online marketing campaign for the supplement, claiming it can reduce symptoms of diabetic nerve pain and potentially reverse other symptoms of diabetes.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s in Nerve Shield Plus and how it works.

Nerve Shield Plus Features and Benefits

  • Nerve Shield Plus advertises all of the following features and benefits:
  • Reduce symptoms of neuropathy (i.e. diabetic nerve pain)
  • Natural, organic ingredients
  • No harmful side effects
  • Reduce symptoms of diabetes within “weeks”
  • Easy to take

Avoid long-term effects of diabetic nerve pain, including nerve damage that could lead to amputation

How Does Nerve Shield Plus Work?

Nerve Shield Plus contains just a few basic ingredients, including alpha lipoic acid, vitamin D, B vitamins, and herbal extracts.

These ingredients, according to the manufacturer, will reduce symptoms of diabetic nerve pain, targeting diabetes symptoms while reducing the tingling sensation associated with neuropathy.

It’s not totally clear how Nerve Shield Plus works. The manufacturer vaguely claims its ingredients support your central nervous system by protecting your nerves and reducing inflammation, for example. They also claim the B vitamins support the myelin sheath of your nerves, reducing their degradation.

How to Diagnose and Treat Neuropathy

Diabetic nerve pain, also known as neuropathy, occurs when there’s damage or dysfunction in one or more nerves.

According to the Mayo Clinic, this nerve dysfunction typically leads to numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the affected area. Typically, neuropathies begin in your hands and feet, although they can eventually spread to other areas of the body.

To diagnose neuropathy, your doctor may order blood tests, imaging tests, and nerve function tests. Once the doctor has diagnosed neuropathy, the doctor may recommend medications like pain relievers, anti-seizure medications, topical treatments, and antidepressants.

Doctors may also recommend therapies like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), physical therapy, plasma exchange and intravenous immune globulin, and surgery.

Scientific Evidence for Nerve Shield Plus

Nerve Shield Plus has not gone through any clinical trials or formal scientific studies. The manufacturer has not tested its formula on any human or animal subjects to verify that it works as advertised.

Instead, the manufacturer cites research on individual ingredients as proof. They cite a study on vitamin D, for example, showing that it may improve nerve health.

Can supplements really treat diabetic nerve pain? Or this is all a big myth? Here’s what the Mayo Clinic has to say:

“A healthy diet is a critical factor in controlling blood sugar, which is key in managing diabetes and preventing or slowing the progression of diabetes complications such as diabetic neuropathy. Dietary supplements also may play a role.”

The Mayo Clinic specifically recommends vitamin B12, alpha lipoic acid, and acetyl-l-carnitine supplements, for example, because they’ve been connected to various benefits.

Nerve Shield Plus contains two of those ingredients: vitamin B12 and alpha lipoic acid.

Older adults, particularly those with diabetes, have an increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, which could cause neuropathy and other neurological problems. Certain drugs, including metformin (a popular diabetes drug), can also increase the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency.

“The jury is still out on whether or not taking vitamin B-12 supplements can help treat diabetic neuropathy,” explains the Mayo Clinic.

Some small studies have shown that vitamin B12 lessens pain and tingling in those with diabetic neuropathy, for example. Other studies – including larger, review studies – have shown no significant benefit in taking vitamin B12 supplements for diabetic neuropathy.

Alpha lipoic acid, meanwhile, is an antioxidant found in certain foods. The substance has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels. Scientists have studied alpha lipoic acid injections on people with diabetic neuropathy and found they reduced pain, improved nerve function, and reduced other symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. However, no long-term studies have indicated similar effects.

The other ingredients in Nerve Shield Plus have not been connected to reduced symptoms of diabetic neuropathy in any major study.

Nerve Shield Plus Ingredients and Dosages

The Nerve Shield Plus does not list a nutritional label. We have no idea what’s inside Nerve Shield Plus or what the dosage of certain ingredients may be.

Nerve Shield Plus appears to come with a 180 day money back guarantee. You can request a refund at any point within 180 days and receive your money back with no questions asked.

Oddly, the refund policy on the official website mentions “Clear Nails Plus”, a different nutritional supplement, instead of Nerve Shield Plus.

Who’s Behind Nerve Shield Plus?

There’s limited information about the manufacturer of Nerve Shield Plus available online. We don’t know where the supplement is made, for example, nor do we know why the company is qualified to sell diabetes supplements.

Final Word

Nerve Shield Plus is a diabetic neuropathy supplement that makes bold claims about its effectiveness: the supplement claims to reverse certain symptoms of diabetes, treating your diabetic nerve pain using ingredients like alpha lipoic acid and vitamin B12.

There is some evidence these ingredients work as advertised to reduce diabetic nerve pain. However, it’s unclear if the dosages in Nerve Shield Plus are anywhere near an effective dose.

Nerve Shield Plus is also relatively expensive compared to other alpha lipoic acid and B vitamin supplements, priced at $50 to $70 for just one bottle. However, the company offers a generous refund policy: you can request a refund at any point within 180 days with no questions asked (and with no requirement to return the bottle).
