What is CacaoFit?

CacaoFit is a nutritional supplement sold online through Sempora.co, CacaoFit.com, and other websites.

Priced at $60 per bottle, CacaoFit promises to help with weight loss, stress, mood, and more. The formula is rich with antioxidants, delivering powerful benefits throughout your body.

Sempora, the makers of CacaoFit, primarily advertises the supplement as a weight loss aid. The company claims their formula can help manage your appetite, for example, add superfoods to your diet, and promote weight loss, among other benefits.

Cacao has surged in popularity in recent years. Some people take cacao supplements daily to support various health goals. Others use cacao for antioxidants, weight loss, or even a healthy dessert. Increasing research shows the benefits of chocolate – and supplements like CacaoFit can help.

We’ve seen CacaoFit marketed under several different names. A few months ago, we saw the same formula marketed as Cacao Joy. In fact, the CacaoFit sales page contains multiple references to Cacao Joy – so clearly, all marketing has not been updated.

All in all, with the rise in popularity of cocoa flavanols and healthy chocolate superfood drink powders, Sempora's CacaoJoy cacao supplement is worthy of looking into as the company reputation is solid and formula seems to meet a lot of positive requirements upfront.

CacaoFit is labeled under the Sempora brand, which is a subsidiary brand of a Colorado-based supplement company named LexaPure.

The Story Behind CacaoFit

As part of a new 2020 marketing campaign, LexaPure has launched a new sales page promoting CacaoFit.

On that sales page, we learn the story of a woman named Eliza Anne, who claims to be the co-founder of a health education startup in Denver called Sempora.

Eliza claims her “humiliating keto failure” led her to discover cacao. Today, she eats all the chocolate she wants while consistently losing weight – and she claims thousands of women use CacaoFit to enjoy similar results.

On the sales page, Eliza tells the story of taking a taxi in Fiji on her honeymoon. She asked the taxi driver why he was so happy all the time. That taxi driver told Eliza about the benefits of cacao.

A few years later, Eliza and her husband faced marriage troubles. She and her husband had both gained weight. She decided to make a change, so she started eating cacao.

To make a long story short, Eliza packaged cacao into a formula with other ingredients. Today, she sells CacaoFit online to anyone.

Eliza does not claim to have any medical experience, nutritional certifications, or educational background in supplement creation. In fact, Sempora doesn’t even seem to be a real supplement company: they’re just a subsidiary brand under the LexaPure family – so it’s unclear how “Eliza Ann” is the co-founder of Sempora.

In a previous version of the CacaoFit creation story, we heard about Eliza Raum and her husband Eric Raum creating the formula after a trip to Fiji.

Awkward story aside, let’s take a closer look at how CacaoFit works.

How Does CacaoFit Work?

CacaoFit works similar to other cacao formulas. The supplement contains a significant dose of raw cacao.

Cacao is the unrefined version of chocolate or cocoa. It’s the chocolate bean before processing. The Aztecs used cacao to make the “elixir of the gods.” It’s been prized for centuries for its health benefits. In recent years, cacao has faced a resurgence in popularity as a nutritional supplement, allowing you to enjoy rich, creamy chocolate without the guilt.

By taking CacaoFit daily, you can purportedly enjoy the following features and benefits, according to Sempora:

Add CacaoFit to virtually any recipe, using it in smoothies, snacks, or baking

Manage your appetite with satiating healthy fats

Promote blissful, happy moods and help your brain release the happy chemical, serotonin

Enjoy a zero-sugar alternative to sweet treats and desserts

Access an easy and satisfying way to increase superfoods in your diet and support overall health

At $60 per bottle and higher, CacaoFit is much more expensive than competing cacao formulas. However, the supplement also uses much different ingredients than a typical cacao supplement.

In addition to cacao, for example, CacaoFit also contains organic medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) and organic coconut milk, both of which deliver healthy fats that enhance feelings of fullness.

The formula also contains turmeric and cinnamon. Sempora claims these ingredients support healthy blood sugar levels, promote anti-inflammatory effects, and encourage healthy digestion, among other benefits.

There’s also lion’s mane, a type of mushroom extract, which purportedly enhances mental clarity and focus.

Because of all of these benefits, Sempora describes CacaoFit as a “one of a kind” cacao supplement.

CacaoFit Ingredients

CacaoFit discloses its full list of ingredients and dosages online. LexaPure discloses the specific amount of each ingredient in each tablespoon serving, making it easy to compare CacaoFit to other cacao supplements.

The formula contains all of the following in each 8g (1 tablespoon) scoop:

  • 300mg of organic MCT powder
  • 300mg of organic cacao powder
  • 100mg of cocoa powder
  • 100mg of acacia gum
  • 500mg of organic coconut milk
  • 100mg of organic cinnamon
  • 70mg of organic turmeric
  • 50mg of lion’s mane mushroom extract
  • 30mg of sea salt

Other ingredients include natural vanilla flavor and monk fruit extract

Each serving of CacaoFit contains 30 calories. The company claims the formula has a smooth, dark chocolate taste with a sharp ending note. It creates a creamy flavor when mixed with water due to the organic coconut milk powder.

Scientific Evidence for CacaoFit

CacaoFit has not gone through any clinical trials or scientific studies. LexaPure does not claim to have tested the formula on any animals or humans.

However, the company cites 11 studies on its ‘References’ page to support its advertised benefits. We’ll review those references below, then determine if there’s scientific evidence proving CacaoFit works as advertised to help with weight loss, appetite, inflammation, and other advertised effects.

First, some researchers have described cacao as a genuine “super fruit” for its rich antioxidant content and other benefits.

One of the biggest studies on cacao and chocolate was published in Antioxidants & Redox Signaling in 2011. Researchers reviewed evidence on chocolate, cocoa, and cacao. They concluded that cacao is rich with flavonoids like catechin, epicatechin, and procyanidin. These are antioxidants that could support healthy inflammation in the body.

Because of the rich antioxidant content and observed benefits, researchers concluded that “the benefits of moderate cocoa or dark chocolate consumption likely outweigh the risks.”

A similar study from 2011 analyzed the antioxidant capacity of cacao compared to other fruits to determine in cacao was really a super fruit. Researchers concluded that cocoa powder and dark chocolate “had equivalent or significantly greater” antioxidant content than fruit powders and fruit juices, as measured by their ORAC, TP, and TF values.

Harvard Health, similarly, recently praised cacao and cocoa for reducing blood pressure and inflammation and reducing the risk of heart disease, among other observed benefits. WebMD is similarly positive about cacao and cocoa, praising cacao for its rich levels of antioxidants connected to heart protection, stress, digestive health, cognitive function, and more.

The company cites this 2015 study published in the Indian Journal of Clinical Biochemistry, for example, that describes the connection between stress, oxidative injury, and disease. Researchers analyze how free radicals impact inflammation, although the study is not related to cacao or other ingredients in CacaoFit.

LexaPure also cites this 2013 study showing that the mushroom extract in CacaoFit could help support the brain. Researchers described how certain edible and medicinal mushrooms – including the lion’s mane mushroom in CacaoFit – could support various cognitive benefits. Lion’s mane mushroom, also known as Hericium erinaceus, is an edible mushroom with a long history of medicinal use. Studies show that lion’s mane mushroom has a range of anti-microbial, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, and wound healing properties, among other effects.

The curcumin in CacaoFit could support healthy inflammation. LexaPure cites this 2017 review study published in Foods that analyzed the medicinal properties of curcumin and turmeric. However, most cited studies used a higher dose of turmeric than what is found in CacaoFit: studies used dosages ranging from 500mg to 12,000mg of turmeric per day, for example, while CacaoFit contains just 70mg of turmeric. Most turmeric supplements contain 500mg to 1,500mg of turmeric per serving.

Similarly, LexaPure uses this study to support its use of cinnamon. Researchers in that study found that cinnamon had antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, and anticancer effects, among other benefits. The cited studies use a dose of 120mg to 6,000mg of cinnamon per day, and CacaoFit contains 100mg of cinnamon extract.

Overall, CacaoFit seems to contain the right ingredients, including numerous ingredients proven to support various health benefits.

However, the big drawback of CacaoFit is the dosage. Other cacao supplements specifically list polyphenol content, and many supplements contain 1,000mg of cocoa powder per serving or more. With just 300mg of cacao powder per serving and unlisted polyphenol content, CacaoFit seems weaker than other cacao supplements.

Who’s Behind CacaoFit?

The CacaoFit sales page claims the formula was created by a woman named Eliza Anne, who co-founded Sempora.co.

However, Sempora.co appears to be a subsidiary supplement brand within the LexaPure family. It does not appear to be its own company. In fact, it’s unclear if “Eliza Anne” is even a real person. However, previous versions of CacaoFit have mentioned a woman named Eliza Raum, who could be the same Eliza Anne mentioned on the CacaoFit sales page.

In any case, you can contact the makers of CacaoFit via the following:
