What is Curavi?

Curavi is a laser light therapy pain relief belt. Three core products are available, including:

  • CuraviUltra
  • CuraviPlus
  • CuraviPro

All three products work the same way but have different light output. Each belt has a series of lights facing inward. You wrap the belt around you, then turn on the lights and leave it for 30 minutes.

Curallux claims that anyone can use the belt for 30 minutes per day to reduce pain, inflammation, aches, swelling, and other issues in the lower back. It’s a non-invasive, drug-free treatment.

How Do Curavi Belts Work?

The CuraviUltra, CuraviPlus, and CuraviPro all work the same way: they use a precise wavelength of light to penetrate the skin, relieving pain in the targeted area.

As the laser lights penetrate your skin, they stimulate local blood circulation, creating an inflammatory response in the region. This inflammation leads to pain relief.

When you wear your Curavi belt, you will feel some heat. The heat is caused by the lasers penetrating your skin.

To be clear, the Curavi belt does not use LEDs: it uses lasers. Laser light does not spread as much as LEDs over the same distance. The lasers on the Curavi belt penetrate tissue to a deeper level with a higher concentration.

Curallux calls it “Low Level Laser Therapy”, or LLLT. The Curavi website claims laser therapy “has been a tool in healing in many cultures throughout history”, although LLLT was put on the backburner in the United States with the invention of antibiotics. Today, Curallux claims LLLT is making a comeback as chronic disease risk has increased and antibiotics have failed. People are demanding alternatives to drugs and surgery, and LLLT may be that alternative.

The medical community refers to Low Level Laser Therapy as photobiomodulation therapy, or PBMT. Certain studies have shown that photobiomodulation therapy can improve tissue repair and reduce pain and inflammation wherever the bean is applied.

Scientific Evidence for Curavi: Do Curavi Belts Actually Work?

Curallux does not cite any clinical trials or scientific studies on its own Curavi belts. It’s unclear if the Curavi belts have gone through any scientific testing.

However, researchers have performed some studies on Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), and found some benefits.

This review study from 2016 summarizes what science knows about Low Level Laser Therapy.

LLLT was discovered in 1967 by Endre Mester at the Semmelweis Medical University in Hungary. Mester was trying to replicate the results of a study where a researchers used ruby laser to cure malignant tumors in rats. Mester found that his laser did not cure tumors, but he did observe a heightened rate of hair growth and better wound healing in rats. It was the first indication that Low Level Laser Therapy could have beneficial applications in medicine.

Since then, researchers have performed various studies on LLLT or PBMT.

Researchers in Brazil have found that PBMT could enhance radiotherapy treatment of cancer cells in vitro, for example. Other studies have shown that using PBMT on fibroblasts may reduce skin fibrosis.

Other studies have been less supportive of Low Level Laser Therapy. Many people continue to see LLLT as “snake oil”. This review study performed by the Cochrane Database Organization found “no reliable evidence” that LLLT was effective against diseases like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other illnesses.

Part of the problem with Low Level Laser Therapy is that researchers use different wavelengths and different power outputs, leading to inconsistent results.

As one research team wrote in 2019, PBMT is “easy to do, but difficult to get right”. However, when used “in the right dose and clinical context, this treatment can reduce pain and alleviate inflammation while stimulating tissue healing and regeneration.”

Overall, there are few large scale human studies verifying the safety or efficacy of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT). There’s no specific evidence that Curavi belts work as advertised to reduce pain in the region. However, LLLT remains a popular, alternative medical treatment.
