What is Ageless Brain?

Ageless Brain is a nootropic nutritional supplement made by PureHealth Research. The company markets the formula online as a way to improve memory and eliminate brain fog.

When you get older, brain function naturally declines. It’s an inevitable part of aging. Some people take supplements to support brain health as they age. Others engage in cognitively demanding activities, working their brain like they work other muscles in the body.

By taking Ageless Brain daily, you can purportedly protect your brain, supercharge your memory, relieve stress, and “remember things as you did in your 20’s and 30’s”, according to the PureHealth Research website.

As part of a 2020 marketing campaign, PureHealth Research markets Ageless Brain online through a dramatic video presentation. In a video, we hear about a man and his wife hosting a dinner party. The man is telling a story to his guests, then forgets the story halfway through. In fact, he even forgets he was telling a story, suggesting he has severe cognitive impairment. That man was purportedly able to support his cognitive health and reduce memory loss issues by taking Ageless Brain.

How Does Ageless Brain Work?

Ageless Brain claims to provide three crucial benefits:

  • Brain protection
  • Natural memory support
  • Stress relief

To achieve these effects, PureHealth Research uses natural ingredients that support a healthy brain and help reduce cognitive decline. The company claims its formula can “help curb declining brain health”, and that it was formulated by “health and industry professionals” with proven expertise solving cognitive problems.

PureHealth Research makes big claims about Ageless Brain and its ability to support brain health, although the ingredients are underwhelming at first glance. The formula contains two main active ingredients: green tea extract and caffeine.

Making things look worse for Ageless Brain is that the company does not disclose specific ingredient dosages. We know there’s 600mg of a proprietary blend containing caffeine, Huperzine A, and other ingredients, for example, although we don’t know the specific ingredient breakdowns. It’s possible there’s 500mg of caffeine and only trace amounts of added ingredients, for example.

Overall, Ageless Brain contains ingredients that are found in other nootropic supplements, including niacin, vitamin B6, green tea extract, caffeine, GABA, bacopa aerial part extract, alpha GPC, L-theanine, phosphatidylserine, L-tyrosine, and Huperzine-A.

All of these ingredients can be found in other nootropic supplements. In fact, Ageless Brain is virtually identical to other nootropic formulas. Caffeine and L-theanine is one of the most popular nootropic stacks available today, for example, while ingredients like phosphatidylserine, Huperzine-A, and GABA are all common in other nootropics.

We know how these ingredients work. Caffeine, for example, energizes your brain and has been shown in multiple studies to support memory formation and recall, making it easier to store information and recall that information at a later date.

Huperzine-A, alpha GPC, and phosphatidylserine, meanwhile, are three of the most popular nootropic ingredients, and they’ve been shown to increase cognitive ability and brainpower – beyond just memory formation.

The big drawback of Ageless Brain is the lack of dosage information. Dosage is extremely important with nootropics. There’s a big difference between taking a 2:1 stack of caffeine and L-theanine, for example, and a 5:1 stack. There’s also a big difference between taking 100mg of caffeine (approximately the same amount as a cup of coffee) and 500mg of caffeine.

With no dosage information, it’s hard to compare Ageless Brain to other supplements. It’s also hard to compare the ingredients to scientific studies. The supplement appears to contain the right ingredients, including proven brain boosters, although the lack of dosage information makes it hard to confirm its advertised benefits.

Ageless Brain Ingredients

Ageless Brain contains the following ingredients:

10mg of niacin (as niacinamide) (63% DV)

2.5mg of vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine hcl) (147% DV)

250mg of green tea leaf extract

600mg of a proprietary blend containing caffeine anhydrous, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), alpha glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha GPC), L-theanine, phosphatidylserine, L-tyrosine, and Huperzine-A

The ingredients are packaged into a vegetable capsule with brown rice flour and magnesium stearate used as fillers, binders, or preservatives.

The formula is also vegan friendly, non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy free.

Scientific Evidence for Ageless Brain

PureHealth Research has not conducted any clinical trials or scientific studies on Ageless Brain. The formula has never been studied in any type of academic or professional setting to verify the advertised benefits.

However, PureHealth Research claims the ingredients “have been scientifically proven to support better focus, energy levels, and improve memory”. As proof, they cite third party studies performed on individual ingredients within Ageless Brain.

We’ll focus on the two biggest ingredients in Ageless Brain: caffeine and green tea extract.

One of the biggest summaries of caffeine and cognitive performance can be found here. Researchers analyzed available evidence on caffeine, including its effectiveness on soldiers for staying alert in combat. Researchers concluded that caffeine is an ideal stimulant for use during military operations when performance declines. Researchers recommended a dose of 600mg to immediately reverse severely degraded performance, while doses of 200 to 400mg are better for less powerful sleep deprivation symptoms. Researchers also praised caffeine for its low abuse potential and its legal and social acceptance.

Overall, caffeine is a proven and popular brain booster used daily by millions of people around the world. An average cup of coffee contains 80 to 120mg of caffeine.

Unfortunately, PureHealth Research does not disclose its caffeine content. We know there’s 600mg of total proprietary formula, although it’s unclear how much caffeine is in each serving. Caffeine is the first listed ingredient in the proprietary formula, which means it’s the most common ingredient, although we don’t know the specific dosage.

We do know, however, that Ageless Brain contains 250mg of green tea extract. Green tea is rich with epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which appears to impact cognition in significant ways. Typically, studies use a dose of 250mg to 500mg of green tea extract per day. In this study, researchers found that EGCG injections in mice significantly improved cell function and reduced the risk of degenerative brain disease. Other studies have found a connection between green tea and age-related brain decline.

Ageless Brain also contains two common B vitamins, including niacin (vitamin B3) and vitamin B6. Your body needs B vitamins for multiple roles, and they’re particularly known for boosting energy.

Ageless Brain contains other ingredients, including Huperzine-A and L-theanine, which have been linked to better cognitive ability when used at the right dosages. However, with no dosage information listed, it seems unlikely that Ageless Brain contains significant amounts of any of these listed ingredients, so they’re not worth mentioning here.

Overall, Ageless Brain combines B vitamins, caffeine, and green tea extract into a single supplement. These ingredients should work as advertised to support cognition, although you can also find all of these ingredients in cheaper supplements.
