What is EverLean?

EverLean is a probiotic supplement marketed primarily as a weight loss aid. You take EverLean daily, then lose extra weight each week.

By taking one capsule of EverLean per day, you can purportedly lose 1.13 pounds of extra fat per week through more regular bowel movements, burn 437% more fat from diet and exercise, and shrink existing fat cells by 30%, among other benefits. EverLean even claims to block new fat cells from forming.

EverLean is made by a company named Peak Biome. Peak Biome is marketing EverLean online through a dramatic sales page featuring a man named Jeremy Reeves. Jeremy claims he spent the first 28 years of his life blaming his weight loss problems on bad genes. He tried dozens of diets – and nothing worked. Then, he stumbled upon gut bacteria research.

Jeremy’s research led him to conclude that “gut bacteria have 50% more impact on your weight than your genes”. Because of gut bacteria issues, many people fail at dieting even when they’re doing everything else right. It’s not your fault – it’s your gut bacteria’s fault.

Obviously, plenty of diet pills are advertised as a short cut for weight loss. Most diet pills make similar promises, claiming to encourage easy, overnight weight loss with no significant changes to diet or exercise.

Does EverLean really work? Let’s take a closer look at how EverLean helps with weight loss.

How Does EverLean Work?

EverLean makes big claims about its effectiveness, claiming it can block fat formation, encourage healthy digestion, and help with weight loss, among other benefits.

The ingredient label for EverLean shows it’s a straightforward probiotic supplement. The supplement has multiple strains of probiotic bacteria, two types of prebiotics, and 200mg of green tea extract.

In other words, EverLean is like a digestion supplement mixed with a popular weight loss aid (green tea extract).

Here’s how EverLean claims to work:

Probiotics: EverLean contains probiotics like Lactobacillus gasseri and others. Each capsule of EverLean contains 25 billion colony forming units (CFUs) of probiotic bacteria across six different strains. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria in your gut linked with good digestion. Your body needs probiotics to break down foods, extract nutrients, and help with digestion, among other effects. If you don’t have enough probiotics, or if your gut bacteria are imbalanced, then you could experience bloating, indigestion, and other issues.

Prebiotics: Your probiotic bacteria feed on prebiotics, which are food sources for these bacteria. Typically, supplements use fiber and fiber-like ingredients as prebiotics, and EverLean is no different. The supplement contains inulin and fructo-oligosaccharides, both of which are popular prebiotic formulas. These prebiotics should give your probiotic bacteria the nutrients they need to thrive.

Green Tea Extract: EverLean also contains 200mg of green tea leaf extract in each capsule. Green tea extract is rich with EGCG, a popular polyphenol linked to better metabolism and weight loss. Some people drink green tea for weight loss. Others take concentrated green tea supplements. Green tea naturally contains a small amount of caffeine, although Peak Biome claims there is only 2.8mg of caffeine in each capsule of EverLean, which is about 1/30th the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee.

Overall, Peak Biome claims these ingredients “create stunning results”. The ingredients boost digestion from multiple angles, then give your body the green tea extract it needs to help with weight loss.

How to Use EverLean

Peak Biome recommends taking one capsule of EverLean daily to support weight loss. Each capsule should walk your body through three stages of weight loss, including:

Phase 1: Rebalance: Peak Biome recommends taking one capsule per day during the first month to rebalance your gut. The company claims you should experience a flatter belly, less bloating, more energy, and weight loss within the first 30 days of taking the formula.

Phase 2: Rebuild: Peak Biome recommends taking two capsules per day during the second phase. The company claims your body’s fat-burning processes increase during this phase, with hunger cravings fading away and your digestive system working properly.

Phase 3: Accelerate: Finally, Peak Biome recommends taking three servings of EverLean per day during this last phase. During this phase, you can eat whatever foods you like while still losing weight because of your faster metabolism, according to Peak Biome.

EverLean Ingredients

Unlike other weight loss supplements, which package ingredients into mysterious proprietary formulas, EverLean discloses all ingredients and dosages upfront, making it easy to compare EverLean to other weight loss supplements. We know the exact dosage of each of the six probiotic strains, for example, along with the specific dosage of green tea extract, inulin, and FOS.

The full list of ingredients in EverLean includes:

  • 34.5mg of Lactobacillus gasseri (6 billion colony forming units or CFUs)
  • 12.77mg of Bifidobacterium animalis (5 billion CFUs)
  • 14.37mg of Lactobacillus paracasei (5 billion CFUs)
  • 7.66mg of Lactobacillus rhamnosus (3 billion CFUs)
  • 11.5mg of Bifidobacterium breve (3 billion CFUs)
  • 200mg of green tea leaf extract
  • 125mg of inulin (from chicory root extract)
  • 120mg of fructooligosaccharides (FOS)

Scientific Evidence for EverLean

Peak Biome makes big claims about its supplement. However, the company has not run any clinical trials or studies using EverLean on any animal or human subjects. Instead, the company cites some third-party studies performed on individual ingredients in EverLean.

Peak Biome cites 40+ studies supporting EverLean and its advertised benefits. We’ll discuss some of those studies and what they mean below.

Peak Biome cites this 2010 study on the catechins in green tea extract, for example. Researchers analyzed green tea extract’s effect on body fat. After analyzing available evidence, researchers concluded that the ingredients in green tea extract – including caffeine – “may increase energy expenditure” and have “positive effects on body-weight management”. Overall, researchers recommended using a mixture of green tea and caffeine to improve weight maintenance through thermogenesis and fat oxidation.

Green tea has been linked with weight loss benefits in multiple studies. However, Peak Biome seems to use a slightly lower dose of green tea extract than used in most studies. A typical green tea extract weight loss study uses 250mg to 500mg of green tea extract per day (approximately the same amount of extract as 3 to 5 cups of green tea). EverLean contains 200mg of extract per capsule. It’s not a low dose – but it’s not an overly strong dose compared to other green tea extract supplements.

Peak Biome also cites this 2011 study showing the effect that Bifidobacterium lactis has on gut health. Researchers gave participants a dose of 17.2 billion CFUs of probiotic bacteria (high dose), 1.8 billion CFUs of probiotic bacteria (low dose), or a placebo, then measured effects over 14 days. Researchers found that daily B. latcis supplementation was well-tolerated and decreased whole gut transit time (WGTT) while reducing symptoms of GI dysfunction in adults. Researchers observed benefits in both the high dose and low dose groups, with no side effects reported in any groups.

To support the weight loss effects of probiotics, Peak Biome cites this 2010 study showing that Lactobacillus paracasei was linked with decreased fat storage. Researchers found that healthy levels of these probiotic bacteria was linked with less fat formation.

Overall, the ingredients in EverLean appear to work as advertised to inhibit weight gain, support weight loss, and encourage digestion, among other benefits. The main drawback of EverLean is that other supplements contain similar ingredients and dosages at a cheaper price point – including basic probiotic supplements sold through Amazon.
