What is CinnaChroma?

CinnaChroma is a diet pill that uses cinnamon bark extract to provide a range of powerful benefits.

The supplement is marketed primarily towards people who are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Some diabetics take cinnamon bark extract daily to support blood sugar.

CinnaChroma doesn’t just claim to support normal blood sugar: the supplement specifically claims to reduce blood glucose levels, cut down on sugar cravings, regulate long-term glucose metabolism, and help you avoid diabetes entirely, among other benefits.

CinnaChroma was formulated by a man named Joe Barton of Barton Nutrition. Today, Joe and the Barton Nutrition team sell CinnaChroma through BartonNutrition.com, where it’s priced at around $70 per bottle.

Let’s take a closer look at how CinnaChroma works to see if it really helps you avoid diabetes and diabetes symptoms.

How Does CinnaChroma Work?

CinnaChroma contains cinnamon bark extract, a natural extract found in many diabetes supplements and diet pills.

There’s some evidence cinnamon bark extract could help your body regulate blood sugar. That’s why some diabetics take cinnamon bark extract daily.

Barton Nutrition describes cinnamon as “diabetes fighting nutrient #1,” claiming it has been “proven by science” to cause a “statistically significant decrease in their blood sugar levels,” among other benefits.

In addition to regulating blood sugar, cinnamon extract can purportedly stop binge eating by supressing your appetite, according to Barton Nutrition. If you overeat, then you’re more likely to become obese. Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes.

CinnaChroma also contains another common mineral found in many other diabetes supplements and diet pills: chromium. Described as “diabetes fighting nutrient #2,” chromium can purportedly “improve mood and appetite to prevent binge eating,” among other benefits.

Rounding out the formula is selenium, described as diabetes fighting nutrient #3. Selenium can purportedly act as an antioxidant, reduce your risk of cancer, prevent heart disease, and boost your immune system, among other benefits, according to the CinnaChroma sales page.

Barton Nutrition cautions that taking selenium and chromium together could cause diabetes – not prevent it. That’s why the company has added diabetes fighting nutrient #4 – vanadium. Vanadium is a mineral that can purportedly “help reduce the risk of diabetes,” particularly if you have elevated selenium levels.

The final two ingredients in CinnaChroma are vitamin D3 and vitamin K, two more common vitamins found in many multivitamins. Your body needs both minerals for crucial body functions. Vitamin D supports immunity, for example, while vitamin K2 supports inflammation.

Together, Barton Nutrition describes these ingredients as Diabetes Fighting (DF) Nutrients. By combining all of these ingredients into one supplement, CinnaChroma claims to target diabetes in multiple ways.

The supplement was formulated by Dr. Scott Saunders, a Santa Barbara-based medical doctor specializing in natural health and wellness solutions.

CinnaChroma Features & Benefits

Most nutritional supplements claim to support various benefits. CinnaChroma, however, doesn’t just claim to support various body functions: it actually claims to reduce blood sugar and help you avoid diabetes, among other benefits.

Here are some of the official advertised benefits, according to the CinnaChroma sales page:

  • Reduce blood glucose levels
  • Curb appetite, reduce binge eating, and cut down on sugar cravings
  • Regulate longer-term glucose metabolism
  • Avoid diabetes, heart disease, liver problems, and osteoporosis
  • Fight inflammation
  • Reduce the risk of stoke

CinnaChroma also claims that certain ingredients in the formula are linked to even more benefits. The selenium in CinnaChroma, for example, “acts as an antioxidant…can reduce your risk of cancer…prevent heart disease,” and provide other benefits.

Similarly, the vitamin K2 in CinnaChroma can purportedly “improve cognitive function, help bone health and has even been shown to reduce the risk of stroke,” among other benefits.

According to customer testimonials on the CinnaChroma sales page, many people have successfully lowered blood sugar by taking the supplement. In fact, many reviewers claim they no longer take any metformin or other diabetes medication. One man claims he used to take 10 units of Novalog insulin injections before each meal, 1,000mg of metformin twice per day, and 40 units of Lantus at bed time. That man reduced fasting blood sugar from the 130s to the low 80s, stopped taking metformin, and reduced his dosage of Novalog and Lantus by taking CinnaChroma.

Clearly, the makers of CinnaChroma believe in the power of their supplement. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients within the formula and the scientific evidence supporting it.

CinnaChroma Ingredients

CinnaChroma uses six ingredients to support its targeted benefits, including:

Cinnamon Extract: CinnaChroma contains a specific type of cinnamon called Chinese Cassia, also known as “false cinnamon.” This is the type of cinnamon shown to lower blood sugar. As proof, the company cites a study where 18 people with type 2 diabetes took Chinese Cassia or a placebo. All participants in the Chinese Cassia group recorded a statistically significant drop in blood sugar.

Chromium: CinnaChroma contains a mineral called chromium, which can purportedly help regulate blood glucose, support mood, and suppress appetite, among other benefits. Chromium is found in many diet pills and diabetes supplements for this reason.

Selenium: The selenium in CinnaChroma purportedly acts as an antioxidant, reducing your risk of cancer, preventing heart disease, and boosting your immune system, among other benefits.

Vanadium: Vanadium is a mineral linked to appetite, sugar cravings, and fat formation. Although all other ingredients can be found in other diet pills and diabetes supplements, vanadium is less common, and we haven’t seen vanadium in many other supplements.

Vitamin D3: Vitamin D3 is an essential mineral produced by your body when exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in immunity.

Vitamin K2: Vitamin K2 is found in vegetables like kale and broccoli. It’s shown to fight inflammation, improve cognitive function, and help bone health, among other benefits.

All active ingredients are packaged into a gelatin and cellulose capsule with magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide used as fillers and binders.

Scientific Evidence for CinnaChroma

The CinnaChroma sales page references several studies on the ingredients in CinnaChroma, although the company does not actually cite these studies or link to them, making it hard to verify the advertised benefits. However, we’ll review CinnaChroma’s evidence below.

As WebMD explains, many diabetics use cinnamon daily for diabetes. However, there’s limited largescale evidence that cinnamon significantly improves diabetes symptoms. The American Diabetes Association has dismissed cinnamon’s use in diabetes treatment, and WebMD admits that “it’s not yet clear if cinnamon is good for diabetes.”

In this 2013 review study published in Annals of Family Medicine, researchers analyzed randomized controlled trials on cinnamon and diabetes, reviewing all available evidence. Researchers analyzed 10 trials involving 543 patients and found “consumption of cinnamon is associated with a statistically significant decrease in levels of fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglyceride levels, and an increase in HDL-C levels.”

However, researchers found there was “no significant effect” on hemoglobin A1C when comparing cinnamon and a placebo.

The reviewed studies involved doses of 120mg to 6,000mg of cinnamon extract per day. CinnaChroma contains 250mg of cinnamon extract, making the dose seem relatively low compared to the doses used in studies. However, the company uses a 10:1 dose of cinnamon extract that could be more powerful than the doses used in studies.

CinnaChroma contains a significant dose (5,000% of your daily value or DV) of vitamin D3. Does vitamin D3 help with blood sugar or diabetes?

According to this study published by Diabetes Spectrum and the American Diabetes Association, vitamin D deficiency appears to hinder blood glucose control. If you are deficient in vitamin D, then it’s more difficult for your body to regulate blood sugar. That’s why many diabetics take vitamin D supplements, and why your doctor may recommend taking a vitamin D supplement.

The other ingredients in CinnaChroma are also linked with similar effects. They’re vitamins and minerals that are crucial for health and wellness. However, you can also get these vitamins and minerals through any ordinary multivitamin. The key active ingredient in CinnaChroma is the cinnamon extract, so we focused primarily on the science behind cinnamon.
